Al exKeymasterYou should be able to boot directly from the Win95 installation on your c: image. At least that’s what I’m doing.
Al exKeymasterMake sure to edit the expert settings. I set it to 80.000 cycles max, but the S7 can handle up to ~130.000. I’d suggest you simply set cycles=max 120% (or 110% if you get sound skipping). The increased 120% limit (from 105% in “stock” Dosbox) has been introduced with the last update of Magic Dosbox, and gives a nice performance boost.
Al exKeymasterI’ve made a short gameplay video. IIRC, it’s the same layout. Note that the video is choppier than the real thing. The game is running almost perfectly well on our S7 edge. 🙂
Al exKeymasterFunny you say that.? I had a Snapdragon 805 Note 4 before, and it was plain horrible. Hardly faster than my old Exynos Note 2 in emulators as PPSSPP, Mupen64, or especially Dosbox, and the most horrible throttling imaginable.
And from what I’ve seen, the SD 820 in the S7 is also inferior to its Exynos counterpart. Less cpu power, more heating. The Snapdragon has a much better GPU, but you don’t really need that for emulation.
Al exKeymasterThat’s good. The Exynos chips are more than twice as fast as the Snapdragons when it comes to emulation, and Dosbox in particular.
The bad thing is, these games are obviously too demanding even for modern smartphones. ?
Al exKeymasterOut of interest: do you have an Exynos S7, or Snapdragon?
Al exKeymasterYou can use these images: http://www.mediafire.com/file/zpo4x975poe7co6/HDD_Images.zip
Make sure to use the correct settings for the different image sizes (in the included txt file).I have Win95 installed on a 512 MB image, and I’m using alternating 2 GB images to install games. This way, you can mount different images in different game profiles, and have effectively as many games installed as you want.
Al exKeymasterYeah, new sd card usually means you have to change all mountings. I wish Samsung would’ve stuck to simply call all sd cards “extSdCard”, that was much more convenient. ?
Best thing to do IMHO is change it whenever you want to play a particular game, it will drive you insane to fix it all at once on a tablet. If you’re using expert settings, and own a pc, you can copy all profiles to your pc, then use various tools to batch replace the numeric string with the new one, then move all profiles back to your tablet.
Al exKeymasterCool! PS4 controller put to good use.
??
Al exKeymasterIt’s indeed hardware scaling. The game itself can’t display other resolutions than what it was coded for. DOSBox will simply scale the image to the defined resolution, and apply hardware scaling.
You don’t really need this sdl function, because Magic Dosbox runs at your device’s screen resolution aumtomatically. The “Linear” filter supported by Magic Dosbox filter will do the same as “fullscreen=” with hardware scaling.
You can change the resolution of Magic Dosbox (or any other game/app) with Samsung’s Game Tuner tool, but this will simply reduce the image quality.
Btw, Game Tuner is one of the greatest tools Samsung have ever made. Ever wondered why an ordinary iPhone is “faster” than the S7? Because it only has a 720p screen. Just try Gfxbench on your S7 edge, with default 1440p, 1080p, and 720p. 😉
Al exKeymasterAh, interesting. Does that even work in Dosbox? I thought the “fullresolution=” switch simply triggers hardware scaling.
If so, the “Linear” filter should have a similar effect.
Al exKeymasterYou can’t. The sdl options are restricted compared to the Windows version due to limitations of the Android platform. Magic Dosbox will always run at your device’s native resolution, and display the game without scalers by default. I think what you’re looking for is the “Filter” option. Press the back button when Daggerfall has launched, then tap “Filter”, and chose one. IIRC, you’ve got an S7 edge, so you should be able to use “5xBR lw” just fine, or at least hq2x.
Al exKeymasterLooks good! I’ve been planning to create a layout for these games, too, but never got round to it, so thanks very much! ?
Al exKeymasterLol, that’s extremely cool. After what, 25 years?

Al exKeymasterYeah, going through the stuff in my basement is sort of like digging up dinosaur fossils. C16, C64, NES, SNES, dozens of spare PC parts from 286 up to Core2 Duo stuff, etc., etc. Plus lots of matching games. ?
