Al exKeymasterAdded Galaxy S9+ (Exynos 9810) to the list. 669 realtics with stock governor & settings.
Al exKeymasterI think the reason why there’s the 63 MB limit in Magic Dsbox is the same as in the official Windows Dosbox: himem.sys only supports up to 64 MB, so anything above that is really experimental, and likely to cause instability. Looking at Dosbox Turbo, and how crash prone it is, that might be one of the reasons.
Is there any way to reduce the RP install size? Like e.g. chose lower texture resolution or something like that? Or maybe you can use an older version, like 1.2, or 2.2?
It’s pretty weird RP needs so much RAM, when Half-Life only needs 24 MB, and Thief and Diablo 2 run fine with 32 MB. ?
Al exKeymasterI dimly remember the 256 MB discussion. Let’s wait for something official on this.
Al exKeymasterA nuisance? Not at all. ?
On the contrary, thanks for trying so patiently.
Al exKeymasterI can’t test anything, because I don’t own the game. But can you try to install the game without the restoration project? Also, Mobygames says it only needs 16 MB RAM, and Windows 95, so maybe it’s already enough to reduce memesize to 16 or 32…?
Al exKeymasterThat’s to be expected. Once the cycle stting exceeds the maximum capability of your cpu, emulation will slow down. Before that happens, you’ll get sound issues. Some games can run at higher cycles, some less. You’ll have to try it out and see how much your phone can handle.
Al exKeymasterDude, you know how to make people feel old… ?
Al exKeymasterHi and welcome!
Not quite sure what’s wrong in particular, and I don’t have Fallout 2 to test. But you might want to toggle the SVN core option in the profile settings. This can fix some crashing issues.
Please report back if it doesn’t work, I’m sure we’ll figure out what’s wrong.
Al exKeymasterThanks, added to the list! Does it work with absolute mouse btw?
Al exKeymasterYou are correct on the gpu. The Adrenos are way better than the Malis.
Thermal throttling is no issue on my S7 though, whereas I’ve read comparisons of both S7 variants, that showed thermal throttling on the Snapdragon. Plus my experiences with SD cpus has been pretty bad so far, the Note 4’s SD 805 in particular. That thing heats up like crazy, because Qualcomm did the same as Intel with the Pentium 4 – overclock the shit out of an outdated chipset architecture.I guess it depends on which kind of chipset you’re using. The more recent Snapdragons certainly have caught up, so I stand corrected here. ?
Al exKeymasterIt’s working on my old Note 4, with Marshmallow. The Note 2 is stuck on Kitkat 4.4.2, at least concerning official roms, so maybe it’s some incompatibility between Magic Dosbox’s newer build versions, and the outdated OS version of the Note 2?
Shame I don’t have my Note 2 anymore, it was a great device. Its 1.6 GHz Exynos cpu was faster than the Note 4’s 2.7 GHz Snapdragon. So in case you’re thinking of an upgrade, only buy an Exynos device. These things are incredible for emulators like Magic Dosbox. 🙂
Al exKeymasterHm. Can you post a screenshot? Because it seems to be working fine on my phone (S7 edge, Oreo). I can select an .exe or .com file, and it’s being properly injected into the main program field. ?
Al exKeymasterLol, the modesty… ?
Let’s put it this way: name a better Dosbox port than Magic Dosbox, if you can. Good luck. ?
Al exKeymasterGreat find! ?
It’s actually pretty neat to see how a floppy and an old keyboard just work on Android phones. ?
Al exKeymasterAny chance this might be upped to 128 or 256 MB, e.g. along with the SVN core setting?
