Al exKeymasterYes, console save states work great, wish it was easy to do in Dosbox. Early computer systems are fine, too, because you can simply store the whole system state (C64 for example). But DOS or rather early Windows games can take up 256 MB of RAM, along with several CDs full of content. It would be a nightmare to get all this working without issues. 😉
@Tony: it says “Type IRON.EXE to launch Iron Blood”. ?
Great idea though, there’s probably a simple command line switch that will bypass this message.
Al exKeymasterHm, that game is really weird, I just took a look at the file list. It’s divided into multiple exe files (stage1.exe, stage2.exe, stage3.exe etc.). So when you launch the game, it will load stage1.exe, so the save state won’t find the stage5.exe it’s looking for.
This isn’t a particular Magic Dosbox issue, but a problem with the way save states are implemented in Dosbox. One of several reasons why the official Dosbox build does not support save states at all. So unless it is actually working in one of the unofficial PC builds, I don’t think it can be used on Android, either. You can head over to VOGONS (official Dosbox forum) of course, and look for a general solution there. ?
Always keep in mind please that the save state feature is in alpha state (and probably will remain there forever), and can cause a lot of grief. I’ve been using it on PC (ykhwong’s build) a couple of years ago, and came upon so many issues, I stopped using it altogether. It’s much more reliable these days in Magic Dosbox in terms of compatibility and stability, but some things just can’t be fixed, I guess. ?♂️
Al exKeymasterYou need to be more specific on that issue. Like, what game are you trying to play, and do you run it off your internal sd, or an external (if so, did you grant sd card access)? And which steps did you take so far to resolve the issue?
Al exKeymasterLet me check, I’m on S9+, too. But my guess is that the corresponding widget is simply a bit off.
Al exKeymasterDoes it work in PC Dosbox (Windows/Linux)? Because it could be a general Dosbox issue. I wonder if there’s a way to remap the keys somehow. ?
Al exKeymasterHere you go: https://www.mediafire.com/file/xntt0ir0cc0gbuc/Eye_of_the_Beholder.mgc
It’s a bit rough still, and I had started to create a profile for playing in portrait mode (whicb turned out to be extremely difficult) So in the end, I didn’t finish either one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Al exKeymasterThanks. The first Worms is the one I have the fondest memories of, at least as far as memories go. We used to get pretty drunk while playing back then, that increased the chaos even more. ?
Al exKeymasterTry this layout:
Al exKeymasterIn fact, Wing Commander is so ancient, it needs a very low cycle value. cycles=3000 works well, and is pretty close to how it was on my old 80286 back then.
Al exKeymasterThanks, I’ve linked your reply in my initial post.
Al exKeymasterVery neat. You can post a link to your .mgc file here if you like. I created the icon set myself, but I don’t claim any particular copyright. 😉
Al exKeymasterI’m thinking too much from a modern games perspective, I guess. ?
If there is an S3 driver w/o 32 bit colour mode, it might work. Although, given that the mininmum requirement for the game is a 24 bit colour gpu, I’m almost certain you’ll only get an error message instead. ?
Al exKeymasterI think that will only be possible if there’s an option in the game’s settings. Or maybe a tweak to the game’s config file (an .ini / .cfg file or something like that). I find it a bit strange that this game needs 32 bit graphics though, all this pre-rendered stuff can’t have more colour depth than 16 bit. At least judging by the sceenshots I’ve seen.
Edit: wow, I’ve checked the system requirements, and it does indeed say “24-bit PCI card with 2 MB RAM (4 MB recommended)”.
Al exKeymasterThank you very much, awesome work! ?
Al exKeymasterOh wait, I just tried the demo, and it’s working. All you need to do is set manual correction to 640×240. The mouse gets off while dragging though, so you’ll need to place a “Special” widget somewhere on the screen, and configure it as “Mouse reset”. As I said, some DOS devs did really weird things with mouse implementation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
