@eddieywlee that might’ve been a fluke. If something’s going on in the background, it will affect the benchmark score. I’ve updated the list.

@acrosstheline1 Samsung did an amazing job on the Exynos chip. I think it’s actually closely related to the Kirin, because they’re both using ARM reference design. Maybe Samsung optimized some thing better, but I guess above all, they’re simply handling the heating issue better: the Exynos 8890 is watercooled 🙂, and that’s working really great.

I can use performance governor without any issues, the cpu won’t heat up above 59-64°C. For comparison, my Note 4 was constantly overheating to 85-90°C, and it would then downclock to 800 MHz. Only way to get decent performance was to leave the first core at stock 2.7 Ghz, downclock anonther to 1.2 GHz (to handle Android background tasks), and shut off two cores entirely. That’s because Qualcomm had maxed out the old Snapdragon 800 32 bit design for the Note 4’s 805 line to unhealthy levels.

One big plus for the Snapdragons is their Adreno gpus. They’re much more powerful than the Malis. But unfortunately, Adrenos are not fully compatible with GLTools. So the only way to play Half-Life 2 (which obviously is one of my favourite games) is to use a Mali gpu again.

Well, that pretty much sums up my reasons for buying the S7. 😉

@xarx the dynamic recompiler for Android is far more complicated due to the big differences between ARM and x86 cpus.
The graphics card has nothing to do with it. Dosbox is running 100% on the cpu. Exception: Glide (no Glide wrappers for Android though), and hardware scaling.

@mojoswagger1980 you can’t run GoG installers in Magic Dosbox / Win95. You run it on your real pc, then copy the game folder to your phone.
And you can extract most of them with 7zip. ?

You should try Starcraft. Runs exceptionally well.

Depends. If available, I use Synapse, but the kernel must be custom, and actively support it. For stock rooted kernels, Kernel Adiutor is the best app IMHO.

Strange. Maybe they tweaked the cpu governor a bit, e.g. downclock quicker, to increase battery life?
I guess your wife’s phone is not rooted, right? Else you could try the performance governor trick, that should boost things up.

Uh, that’s very nice! I’m looking for a Samsung alternative, just in case I won’t like the S9. Been watching Huawei phones for a while already, good to see they’re doing so well performance-wise. It should probably be possible to get way below 700 with performance governor. ?

The Glide wrapper must be running on the host OS to have any effect. So unless someone codes a working Glide wrapper for Android, we’re SOL. ?

    Hey @ECHO_OFF,

the dosbox.cong is created individually for each game profile, and managed by using the expert settings. Which are basically the normal dosbox.cong txt file you know from the PC version.

It looks like you’re using the free version, so there’s only one profile. But you can e.g. setup the expert settings to your liking, and launch different games with different conf options from multiple .bat files. That’s how I do it on the PC, or did it in AnDosbox (like U7.bat, WC2.bat, settlers.bat, you get the meaning ?).

It’s working 100%. Just copy the data.dat file from your GoG installation to your phone, and mount it with imgmount d: ?
On your Note 4, if you do the root + performance governor thing, you can play it in VGA mode. I did so myself, and even finished it on the phone.

Wing Commander 4 won’t work, though, because GoG have released the DVD version, which requires Windows, and support for the 6 GB image file. Even if it’S possible to run this in Win98, it should be buggy as hell, and the DVD playback will bring Dosbox to its knees.

Although I have the game in my GoG library, I’ve never tried. I only purchased it on GoG more recently, and I was always playing it before with isos I’ve nade from my old the CD-ROM version.

You know what? I’ll give it a try. Would be much more convenient to have one gog image instead of four self-ripped isos. 🙂

I think @acrosstheline1 means that his phone scores 1024 realtics with performance governor, but the score should be added to the tweaks section. Because only a few people actually root and tweak their phones like that.

Maybe you could add another line with the score, and put “root + performance governor” into the tweaks section.

Here’s an extensive list of timedemo results from real PCs. This will give you a rough idea of what the “real-world” equivalent to Dosbox on your phone is:

Somehow the Exynos chips are insanely fast for Dosbox. My old Note 2 (Exynos 4412) scored 1800 realtics, imagine my disappointment when I switched to Snapdragon Note 4, and got 2100.
I managed to get the Note 4 to ~1400 by rooting, using performance governor, and shutting off two of the four cores to prevent overheating. But that was the absolute maximum.
