Al exKeymasterSorry, I missed your last post. I’m using an old version of Virtual Clone Drive. What you need to do is copy the iso file to a hard drive image, and mount that image as drive D: in Magic Dosbox. Then you can mount the iso file in Windows 95 as virtual cd drive.
You can use one of these images. Correct values for setting up the hdd image are included in the zip file.
Please let us know if it’s working for you! 🙂
Al exKeymasterLol, that’s pretty cool. I like geeky stuff like this.?
If you’re looking for a really good keyboard app to use with Dosbox (if you don’t want to use the built-in Magic Dosbox keyboard), you can try Hacker’s Keyboard from Google Play. It’s 100% free, and don’t worry – it doesn’t hack anything. I guess it’s named like that because it features all buttons imaginable from a real pc keyboard.
Al exKeymasterI don’t recall this has ever been possible. I just tried with an older version, and I was also only able to change the global keyboard setting. ?
But it’s a very good suggestion, maybe this could be implemented in a future release?
What is possible is to chose between the Android IME, and a custom Magic Dosbox keyboard.
Al exKeymasterUsually, data is preserved. I can’t really recall something like that happening to me. But when there are more fundamental changes done to the app’s folder structure for example, things might get erased.
Magic Dosbox has twp options when you’re setting up the data directory, public and private. Private will survive an uninstall of the app, but on the other hand, might get deleted as junk folder by some cleaning apps (never run those anyway, they can destroy important data). When you use the “public” option, the folder will be safe from cleaning apps, but deleted when you uninstall Magic Dosbox.
Al exKeymasterThat sounds weird, 300×100 is a really strange setting. Some DOS games did really strange stuff with mouse implementation though, so in some cases, it’s best to just use relative mouse.
Sadly, I don’t own the game myself to experiment with. BUt I know that in some cases, the mouse is only messed up in menus, but working ingame. If that’s the case here, too, you could e.g. use relative mouse to navigate the menu, hten switch to absolute ingame. There’s also a Deadly Strike widget to automate this switch.
Al exKeymasterThanks, added! Good to see Snapdragons have improved so much, great result.
Al exKeymasterNot sure if that will work, but you can try this in expert settings:
cycles=2500
cycleup=1500
cycledown=1500And then create two widgets, one [Ctrl]+[F11] and one [Ctrl]+[F12]. Will have to try it out myself, but if it works, you’d start with 2500 cycles, and could swap down/up 1500 with these two widgets.
Al exKeymasterThanks, list is updated! ?
Al exKeymasterThanks a lot! ?
I’ve also updated the link in the original post with the one you’ve provided.
Al exKeymasterWow, the Kirin 980 is a beast. ?
Al exKeymaster@Nick you’re talking about absolute mouse emulation, right? AFAIK there are certain issues that won’t allow that kind of x/y coordinate transfpamation. While you can do so e.g. in ScummVM, because it’s only an interpreter, DOSBox emulates the whole mouse input.
What you can do to fix mouse pointer being off, is press the back button once the game has launched, then tap “Advanced settings”, then under Absolute mouse tap “Manual correction”, check “Enabled”, and play with the x/y resolution settings. This is particularly helpful in SVGA games and Windows.
In what game in particular is the mouse cursor off for you?
Al exKeymaster(it worked ?)
Al exKeymasterYep, our whole little conversation has been deleted. I checked back, and to provide you with some information: this was indeed done to keep the topic clean. The .mgc topics are intended only for discussion on the layout itself, not for general Q&A regarding free or paid versions of Magic Dosbox.
I’ll try to move your post and mine here to a new topic, but wanted to reply first in case I mess up. Don’t want another post to disappear without further notice. ?
To answer your last question: the free version allows to test the basic layout features, while more advanced functions are full version exclusive. So if the layout contains some of these, you’ll have to trust in the people reporting how well it’s working. I can assure you
it’s worth the money. ?
Al exKeymasterI did some testing with Civ2 myself, and it seems to be working fine. So there’s probably something wrong with either your Win3.11 installation, or the dosbox.conf entries in your expert settings.
So, I’d suggest you create a new profile, and don’t change anything except the mounting commands.
If that doesn’t work, try using a fresh Civ2 install, or even a clean Win3.11 installation.
Al exKeymasterThe switch is always recognized, even if you’re using expert settings. If you haven’t done so already, can you copy the dosbox.conf content from your PC into the expert settings of Magic Dosbox (except the mountings under [autoexec])?
I’ll see if I can dig up anything about that colour issue.
