Al exKeymasterThis game is still protected by copyright, so I’m afraid we can’t give support for it here. It’s still available for purchase on Steam for example: https://store.steampowered.com/app/500810/Arcanum_Of_Steamworks_and_Magick_Obscura/
As a general rule for installing games in Win95, you mount the image containing Windows as drive C, the image with the game ISO file as drive D, then boot into Win95, mount the image file as cdrom drive with a Virtual Clone Drive or something similar, and run the install from there. If you’re running low on disk space, you can install Win95 to a 2GB image as well, and install the game to drive C, as there should be plenty enough space available there. It’s easiest to do all this on a PC, then transfer the C and D img files to your phone.
Al exKeymasterYou can use Game Tools / Game Tuner (if still available in Pie), or at least Game Launcher, add Magic Dosbox to the games list, and set it to max performance. That should force the OS to keep it running on the main cpu cores, and reduce throttling.
Game Tuner is the best tool Samsung have ever made, but for some reason, it’s not available on more recent phones. ?♂️
Al exKeymasterInteresting thought. You’re trying something very advanced there, I’ll see if I can figure something out when I’m back home and get my hands on my gamepad. 🙂
Al exKeymasterAh, in that case (though I can’t say for sure), I believe that the mouse emulation with the right thumbstick interferes with the widgets. Because those also emulate mouse movement. Would explain why they go haywire, you’re basically using two mice at the same time.
Al exKeymasterThanks a lot! ?
I’ve uploaded it to my own Mediafire account, I don’t have any sharing restrictions there:
Elder_Scrolls_Daggerfall.mgcHappy New Year btw! ??
Al exKeymasterDang, can’t check – again. But I think I know what you mean. When you activate keyboard mapper, the native “automatic” support for left thumbstick probably stops working. You should be able to map the movement controls to the thumbstick in the keyboard mapper, though.
Al exKeymasterShould be alright. Here’s an installation guide: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Install-Daggerfall-on-DOSBox/
The game itself is just pretty buggy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Al exKeymasterJust googled the error message, and it seems to be a general Daggerfall / Dosbox issue, not specicifally Magic Dosbox related. This guy here reinstalled DF to fix it: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/29065-the-elder-scrolls-chapter-ii-daggerfall/63826350
Al exKeymasterYou don’t have to type in any values, you can select the spot on the screen.
The widget combination bascially defines a start point and an ending point, and then moves the mouse cursor from start to end with mouse button pressed. The write error looks like maybe you’re running the game from an external sd card. In that case, you’ll have to request r/w access via Global Settings -> Request permissions. That’s a stupid Google restriction that can only be circumvented manually.
Al exKeymasterAlright, I managed to test, and it’s working just fine on my phone (Galaxy S9+) with a GameSir G4s controller.
My best guess is that your phone probably has a different screen resolution, and that’s messing things up. Anyway, my above suggestion should fix it: just tweak the widgets’ mouse target settings a bit.
Al exKeymasterSorry, can”t find it in my phone. But Larrynho is usually around here every now and then, maybe it’s beat to wait and see. ?
Al exKeymasterLol, happy New Year! ?
Not quite sure why that is. In theory, the widget should behave just the same if bound to a gamepad button.
Maybe if you tweak the target widgets’ coordinates, it’ll help…?
I’m not at home currently, so I can’t test with my own gamepad. ?
Al exKeymasterThe Shield was way ahead of its time back in 2015, and shouldn’t have performance problems. ?
PC speaker bitrate is fine at 11025 kHz. It sounds weird in 44.1 CD quality anyway.
I was being a bit unclear, too: for general midi / soundfonts, you’ll only need to set mixer rate to either 44100 or 48000, as there isn’t a bitrate option for that.
Only if you’re using MT32 emulation, you’ll have to adjust the MT32 bitrate as well. MT32 also has a tendency to slow down emulation. Other than Soundblaster/Aflib, sound won’t skip, but cause kind of a rubberband effect instead. This will only happen if you deliberately overload your cpu though. ?
Al exKeymasterHoly crap, this forum tends to swallow (not show) new posts. Sorry for the overly late reply. Do you still need help?
One thing I can think of off the top of my hat is that maybe you put the game on external sd card, but didn’t grant r/w access for Magic Dosbox.
You can also post the contents of your expert settings (=conf file) here, so we can take a closer look.
Al exKeymasterHi Banjo, and welcome!
Make sure you set both midi and audio mixer resolution to 48 kHz. Anything below 44.1 kHz will result in distorted and overall bad sound.
This has close to zero impact on performance, so I would recommend using at least 44.1 kHz in every game. -
