Al exKeymasterI published your reply. Maybe it’s the image hosting service you’re using? It really looks like some kind of spam filter is going haywire – which is weird, considering there isn’t any active right now. ?
Al exKeymasterHis ports are great, I played both Jedi games six or seven years ago already, on my old Note 2. They were both running flawlessly even on that ancient hardware.
Al exKeymaster861 realtics are about right. Here’s a video I’ve recorded on my old S7 edge (Exynos): http://www.mediafire.com/file/60fai2srerzw98i/Magic_DosBox_2020-02-08-17-23-46.mp4
That’s how it should work. I’ve tested this w/o Expert settings btw, just normal setup via Magic Dosbox’s UI.
Al exKeymasterYour benchmark result looks about right. If you still have troubles with performance, you can also export your profile, and post a dl link here, so we can take a loom at what’s inside.
Al exKeymasterI’d go even further, and suggest Beloko’s port. It got taken down from Google Play a couple of years ago, when Google made a witch hunt, and outright killed a whole bunch of innocent emulators and interpreters.
It’s still availabale on the Amazon appstore though, and it’s plain awesome. Same goes for Beloko’s Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy ports (as always, you need the original game data files of course).
Al exKeymasterGame boosting apps are completely useless, they do nothing except shut down some background apps. And that’s something Android OS can handle very well on its own.
Some phones have built-in, or at least vendor-provided tuning apps. On Samsung phones, you have the older (and better) Game Tuner for fine tuning cpu performance, on more recent OS versions only the Game Launcher, which offers a performance preset. This will keep the cpu at higher clockrates, and thus reduce downclocking at the expense of battery life. Dosbox utilizes only one cpu core, so it can suffer from automatic downclocking, or even downshifting to an energy saving core. The improvements can be huge, as you can see in the benchmark chart on this forum.
Al exKeymasterDepending on your phone, you might be able to activate a special performance, or gaming mode.
Other than that, cycles=max 125% instead of just cycles=max, but that could possibly cause sound skipping issues.
Al exKeymasterI may be mistaken, but either the Duke3D or Doom layout should work for Quake, too.
Al exKeymasterHoray! ??
Let’s hope it’ll last. ?
Al exKeymasterThis forum bug is killing me. Seems to be more widespread, there are numerous people reporting this same issue on their forums. Working on it…
Anyway, thanks very much for your layout, it’s really very well done! ?
Al exKeymasterSomething’s not right there. If your other games are working fine, it must have something to do with your game version. I don’t have the Atomic Edition, but an old CD version I purchased >20 years ago, that contains Life’s a Beach and Duke it Out in DC. It’s not asking me for the CD, btw.
But the profile on this forum was made using the Atomic Edition, I think, so this shouldn’t be a problem. There haven’t been any changes to the game engine either that could cause such a slowdown. You should definitely try to get your hands on another copy.
Al exKeymasterIt is. DOS and Windows 95 haven’t changed much since then. ?
No seriously, you can follow this guide. There haven’t been any major updates to the Dosbox core elements that would require an update to the Win95 installation instructions.
Al exKeymasterWill look closer. For the time being, we’ll check for pending posts as often as possible, and send them on their way manually. Sorry for the inconvenience! ?
Al exKeymasterThat’s weird, the S7 shouldn’t have any problems whatsoever. My S9+ can run the game fluently at 800×600, and the S7 Exynos isn’t much slower.
Here’s a short video I just recorded on my phone: https://youtu.be/Y-tARzkeNyA
Mind that there are some minor stutters in the video that were caused by the recording, the game runs even smoother.You should configure Magic Dosbox in Game Launcher, or even better, Game Tuner (if that’s still available for your phone) to run in performance mode.
These are my settings:
[dosbox]
machine=svga_s3
memsize=32
vmemsize=8[render]
frameskip=0[cpu]
core=dynamic
#valid cputypes (Ykhwong SVN):
# a)auto
# b)386
# c)486
# d)pentium
# e)386_prefetch
# f)pentium_mmx
cputype=auto
cycles=max[mixer]
blocksize=512
prebuffer=10
rate=48000
Al exKeymasterThanks very much! ??
Btw, it seems we’ve got a forum glitch right now, as some posts get stuck in “pending” status instead of being published right away. I’ll see if I can fix that
