Al exKeymasterThanks, added. Really good results here, my Exynos S9+ is crapping out on the benchmark since the Android Q update. ?
Al exKeymasterSome games are really weird. Can you access the standard Shadow Warrior content through Wanton Destruction maybe? So that this is some kind of feature, because you don’t need sw.exe? Otherwise, the game designers have just messed it up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Al exKeymasterYes, I just found that once you’ve run wanton.exe for the first time, sw.exe will also only launch Wanton Destruction. Pretty weird, but good thing it’s working now. ??
Al exKeymasterI know that’s not the answer you want to hear, but it’s working fine for me. ?
So I guess it’s either a configuration error in your profile, or something’s wron with your game files. Maybe check sw.exe and wanton.exe to see if they’re identical? Maybe due to some weird copying process, wanton.exe was copied to sw.exe (that’s far fetched, I know, but it doesn’t hurt to check).
Al exKeymaster?
Al exKeymasterDelete krynn.cfg from the game directory, and run start.bat. You’ll be prompted with the config dialogue again, where you can set the sound options according to your Dosbox settings.
Al exKeymasterI tried the Win98 lite image posted by Rolanddeschain over at xda developers. It’s working, though quite buggy and unstable.
Haven’t tried Settlers 4 myself. Does it run in PC Dosbox?
Al exKeymasterThat’s what I’m talking about. Dosbox will always run at a certain fps, but with varying cpu resources assigned to it by your phone’s cpu management, the emulated cycles will also go up and down, and the game will slow down occasionally.
Another thing you can try is fixed cycles settings. Something like cycles=50000 or 80000 or whatever.
Al exKeymasterRight, Fold 2 should have plenty of power. I assume you’re on a stock ROM, so you can’t apply performance governor, or do some other kernel tweaks. On my phone, being on stock Android 10 instead of rooted Oreo, I’m seeing a heavy performance hit due to Samsung’s own crappy cpu management.
This can be alleviated though by using Samsung Game Launcher, along with Game Booster Plus (https://galaxystore.samsung.com/detail/com.samsung.android.game.gameboosterplus). Add Magic Dosbox as game to the Launcher, then configure GBP to run it in max fps mode.
Al exKeymasterWin95 emulation is extremely cpu heavy. So unless your phone is powerful enough, you’ll have to deal with slowdowns. Dosbox wasn’t even developed to emulate Win95, that’s why it’s not officially supported even on the Dosbox website. SVN core is primarily intended for experimental features (like save states), and is too unstable for Win95. It doesn’t offer any speedup though, so that’s not a big deal anyway.
Still, you can always try to get better performance by applying some of the advanced settings. Frame skip can have an impact, especially on older phones. Frameskip=2 is a reasonable value. Most importantly though, you’ll need more raw power, so the cycles settings is the most important one.
Try cycles=105%. This setting is usually still pretty stable, i.e. has no sound issues. You can go up as high as cycles=125% (hardcoded limit), though at this point, you’ll most likely encounter nasty sound crackkling and skipping.
Al exKeymasterI’ve also updated the benchmark chart with your scores.
Al exKeymasterWow, just wow. Does “performance governor” mean you’re rooted (is that even possible on Snapdragon these days)? Or are you using Samsung tools?
Because on my phone, ever since I’ve upgraded from rooted Oreo to stock Q, I can’t get any decent results anymore. It’s okayish in Magic Dosbox itself (650 realtics), because that’s recognized as a game by Game Booster Plus, and I can configure it to use some kind of high performance mode. But the benchmark apk itself won’t show up, so I’m getting ridiculous slowdowns all the time (960 realtics). Thanks Samsung for your crap cpu management. ?
Al exKeymasterNp, you’re welcome. ??
In 99% of all cases, it’s just some minor, simple tweak (and thank god it’s that easy). As I mentioned, SVN core is necessary to utilize some experimental features, but because it’s unstable, the official Dosbox was left in the code, and is still the default.
Al exKeymasterHeck yea, that’s still extremely fast. Modern smartphone cpus do rival older desktop chips, thanks to Moore’s Law. 🙂
Of course, that does also mean modern x86 cpus are incredibly powerful by now, especially the Ryzen 7 series.
Al exKeymasterSomething special in your settings? I think this game need dynamic core to work properly. Also, you could turn SVN core on/off. THe newer SVN version has more features (like save states), but also some incompatiblities.
