    Good score! These midrange cpus are great nowadays. I’m actually thinking about a “downgrade” from the Samsung S series to an A52G (Snapdragon 750G). I want a headphone jack, and the SD 7xx cpus are really good. 🙂

    Colossal Cave Adventure? Nice, it doesn’t much more retro than that. 🤓👍
    I like your ideas, they all sound really useful.

    Maybe you should just go full nostalgia, and embrace the limited controls. Mouse control wasn’t really a thing back then, so the controls are by default very clumsy. You can get used to it though, because the games were designed around these limitations, which means you don’t need free mouse look to beat them.

    Have you tried both? The Duke 3D profile and the GoG patch?

    I don’t think SW Dark Forces was even designed to be played with KBM. You might have suceess with mapping mouse movement to swipe controls in Magic Dosbox, but I’m not sure if any of this could be translated to a Chromebook w/ external mouse in a playable fashion.

    I found this though: https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_dark_forces_series/dark_forces_plus_basically_vanilla_mouse_look_an_alternative_to_darkxl/page1
    Seems to add some kind of mouse support to the game, so maybe this can help?

    255 probably is the threshold, being Dosbox’s highest setting. The rest is handled by the game itself.
    Descent is very old and one of the first 3D games to offer some kind of mouse support, so quirks like this maybe are to be expected. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I found this on the GoG forum: https://www.gog.com/forum/descent_series/way_to_increase_mouse_sensitivity_past_max_d1_2
    According to the last post, Descent has a fixed turn rate. Mouse acceleration only reduces the time until that turn rate is reached (which is almost immediately anyway). Hence you see now real difference between sensitivity 100 and 1000.

    If that’s really the case, then it’s an issue with the game itself, and can’t be fixed with Dosbox mouse settings. 😕
    I’d have to test it on a real pc though for comparison.

    When exactly do you get this message? When you launch Windows 95/98? Or when you launch any DOS game?

    Looks like this in my expert settings:

    [midi]
    mpu401=intelligent
    mididevice=synth
    synth.sample-rate=48000
    synth.gain=2
    midiconfig=/storage/emulated/0/.MagicBox/MidiROM/GeneralUser_GS_FluidSynth_v1.47.sf2

    It’s important to set the sample rate t at least 44 kHz, because the sound quality suffers badly at anything below. 22.5 kHz sounds really horrible. 🙂
