LappyGBParticipant
Is it important to use VirtualBox 5.0.10 as shown in the Youtube video for creating the Win95 image? My current image was created on a much newer version.
LappyGBParticipantYeah when I was playing around with Win95 a few months back I never encountered any boot errors and didn’t always close it down properly, just for some reason if it crashes now the image seems to become corrupted.
I’ll try it out again with a bigger image file for the game.
LappyGBParticipantHi there,
I’ve had a working Win95 image for some time now. Previously installed Rainbow 6 from ISO with no issues however game performance was terrible so that was a no go.
I’ve been trying to install Commandos Behind Enemy Lines but Win95 is crashing every time I load the ISO and it tries to auto play. I’ve tried moving it to internal storage and disabling SVN with no luck, any thoughts? I have the ISO saved on a 512MB image.
Also, whenever Win95 crashes it won’t boot after (splash screen shows for a couple seconds then goes back to the DosBox boot text), only way to get it back to normal is to use a fresh win95 image, is that normal?
Thanks
LappyGBParticipantI booted up my Win95 install with SVN enabled and it seems to be okay, I didn’t try run any games yet though (non installed on it at the moment).
Where is it that SVN will cause issues? Seems real handy to have the save/load state available on everything.
LappyGBParticipantIt’s not the end of the world, when I encounter the issue I just save state and reload.
Is there any downside to having SVN core enabled?
LappyGBParticipantGood to see it’s not just me, I only need to minimise though, maybe due to some change in Android 10?
LappyGBParticipantI don’t at the moment but it is a Samsung MicroSD, never had any other issues with it. Will try get hold of one to try.
Hopefully someone else with Android 10 on a Samsung device can try it out.
LappyGBParticipantMoved my SD card to the Samsung A40 (Android 10) and have the exact same issue, saves to SD card fine unless you minimise mid-game.
LappyGBParticipantHey Alex,
I have a Samsung Tab A 10.1 (T510) with the latest Android 10 and OneUI 2.0. I’ve been using Magic Dosbox on this tablet for quite a while now and never encountered this problem until about a week ago. The Android 10 update could be to be to blame, it was released a few weeks ago and I’m sure I never encountered this issue on Android 9. I’ve only come across this error by accident after hitting the home screen button by mistake.
If I move the files to internal storage I don’t have any issues so it has to be to do with the SD card. The other workaround is to enable SVN core and save the state when the error occurs, if I then reboot the game and load the state I have SD card access like normal. It seems purely to do with minimising DosBox while mid-game.
Let me install DosBox on my Android 10 Samsung A40 and see if it throws up the same problem!
Thanks
LappyGBParticipantAlso meant to mention, both Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear were on steam many years back but got pulled pretty quickly due to all the compatibility issues on modern systems, so probably explains it.
LappyGBParticipantYeah it would probably be a lot of fiddling around just to install off the 5 discs in one go.
I haven’t tried others just yet but Sim Tower was fine (expected), only thing was I had the base files but needed to download WING.DLL and a couple of sound files (DLL and INI) to the system folder.
I’ve got Warcraft 2 Battle.net edition and Warhammer Dark Omen, can give them a try. I’ll give Rogue Spear a crack as well. From everything I read in the past Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear were coded in such a way that they really don’t like modern hardware, whereas most other Win95+ games I’ve tried will work on Win10 in one way or another.
I’m on a Samsung Tab A 10.1 (CPU is Octa-core 2×1.8 GHz Cortex-A73 & 6×1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 and GPU Mali-G71 MP2).
Out of interest is there a downside to adjusting the windows resolution above 800×600? I tried another S3 driver and changed the monitor settings on a copy of the Win image which let me go up to 1600×1200 and it booted fine, wasn’t sure if it was a wise idea though.
