I hate to bump this, but how far off are we from Android TV or at least full controller UI support? Even if it’s just via “right stick = mouse” and not yet “officially” Android TV compatible (so still needs to be side-loaded)?

I don’t want to be a pain, but I *really* want to buy this for my 2017 nVidia Shield, as I’m a *huge* DOS freak! 🙂

I would be more than willing to help out with testing stuff, submitting configs, etc. once I can run it comfortably.

Thanks for the welcome, Alex… and the tip. I am used to setting my audio to 44.1 khz on PC, but when I did it on Magic DosBox for the PC speaker in Space Quest 1 as a test, it slowed down the emulation quite a lot. If that shouldn’t be the case (and I was surprised because that’s far from a demanding game), I assume I set something else differently (since I had to turn off “auto” to change the audio rate) so will have a play.

Admin: my Nvidia Shield was a Christmas present so I’m still getting used to Android (my phones/tablet are Apple). I’ve always disliked how Apple feel *they* know best how you want to use your devices, and was hoping Android was more “open”… however while it is, Google still seems to want to control everything and it honestly seems worse than when I last had an Android device years ago. 🙁

Looking forward to the return of console mode, then! Just being able to use a controller to move the cursor instead of a mouse will fix the issue, IMO, even if it’s not “full Android TV compatibility”.

I’ve grabbed the font you suggested and it works well, but is there a reason (I presume so) why a soundfont sounds “worse” on Magic DosBox than on my PC, though? For example, the Patch93 SC-55 one I mentioned sounds much better on PC but music sounds “off” (missing notes?) on Magic DosBox when I run Doom with it. We have full GUS support so not a huge issue, just curious.

Sharing MGC files is awesome and it’s great to see people uploading those here, but what I wanted to know was: do MGC files include stuff like gamepad button mapping and mouse settings too, or just the dosbox configuration (cycles, memory, midi, executable, etc.) settings?

Thanks! No idea why it wasn’t working (on internal storage, full permissions, and other games I tried worked) but I copied across another version (from GOG) and it worked. I also re-copied the original floppy version I initially had trouble with and *it* worked this time too, as did the shareware version, so I am putting it down to one of the files getting incompletely copied across the first time, perhaps.

I’d personally suggest just implementing the controller support for the menu via right-stick-as-mouse-cursor as a temporary measure. Full TV compatibility (console mode) would be awesome, but being able to use a controller like we can a physical mouse to navigate the menus would be fine from my point of view and would mean someone could use the app with “just” a controller rather than *having* to use a mouse if they have no touchscreen. I’d also think it would be a lot less work to enable this over developing the full console mode revamp?

Any progress on this? I’d love to commit to this app, but I can’t do so if it’s barely controllable on my Shield (so far I’m testing the free version and – UI control aside – it’s awesome).

The only thing I feel we really need for Shield (Android TV) use is being able to use a controller in the main menu (UI), even if this just means mapping the mouse to the right stick when this option is turned on so we can at least point and click at things without a touchscreen.

I don’t mind a controller being required (i.e. not just the remote) to use this app on Android TV, but right now it’s a real pain to use the proram because I’m switching between my real mouse to move around in the menus but needing my controller for back button, etc. use… so I’ve got to have both on my lap at the same time! In-game this isn’t an issue, as I expect to use either physical keyboard/mouse or controller (if I’ve set it up) when playing… it’s just the UI that’s the issue.

Is #1 (modifier keys) possible now? I couldn’t figure out how to do it…
