Aha, “.Magicbox”, a hidden directory! I should have guessed! Thanks for the help!

It looks like I’ll be able to simply cloud sync the “SaveN” directories and hit ‘sync’ to start or end the turn.

    I had a related idea.

Has anyone ever used shared savestate files to simulate “play by email” multiplayer?

This is already possible by tabbing over to an app like “FolderSync” to update the shared save on dropbox/google drive. If it’s easy to implement multi-user cloud saves, in MDB this could make the process fairly quick and seamless.

It would be cool to play a few turns per day of something like Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Heroes of Might & Magic, with other busy adults sneaking in gaming a few minutes at a time on their phones.

EDIT: I’m trying to set up a shared savestate to hotseat Laser Squad. I can’t find the savestate file, I can’t change the directories in Global settings, and I don’t know to switch my ‘location’ to ‘public’. I uninstalled MDB but I still don’t see any option to change this. Is it possible to just keep the save states in the same directory as the game itself?

It’s possible to get by using normal savegames, but save states would be much more powerful.

    Cool, thanks!

I played the first few scenarios of the campaign, and my Absolute hover-without-click method does well enough for placing buildings, but it’s very hard to pull peasants off the gold line and I don’t think it would work for targeting moving enemies with spells. Also, I think switching to Relative would make it much easier to click on the mini map.

I don’t get to sit down at a computer and play videogames very often, so MDB is huge for me. Thanks again for all your hard work!

I don’t see an image (or a download?) but I’m curious about your approach. Buck Rogers is one of my favorite RPG’s and I’d like to spend a lot of time with the gold box games. The same design could probably be used with little modification across the entire series. I bet we can even make it more user-friendly than desktop play, with the right refinements.

Edit: I started a Champions of Krynn campaign and have been working on my interface for a few days. I spent some time trying to use telescopes to use screen space better, but I’m finding that the GB engine actually changes layout a bit too often. I might just go with a button to switch between a standard view and a combat view.

I’m playing the first dungeon and thinking about hotkeys and combos that could make gameplay much smoother. Like a ‘pass’ combo that sends ‘D’one and ‘Q’uit, so you can just tap the ‘pass’ widget multiple times at the end of the battle, rather than navigating through two command menus for each character. Also, if you make a ‘MAX’ combo that sends ‘9 9 9 Enter’, you don’t have to type in the number of coins you want to pick up. I never understood why GB makes you do that.
